How does Desiccant Packaging prevent Absorption of Moisture?

Our Desiccant Products are materials that have a high affinity for water molecules. They work by absorbing moisture from the air or the product itself. Our range of desiccants includes: silica gel, activated charcoal, biodegradable desiccant, activated alumina, and molecular sieves. When placed in packaging, they actively draw-in and hold water vapor, reducing the relative humidity inside the pack. This protects your products from moisture damage.

How does Desiccant Packaging maintain Low Humidity?

By absorbing moisture, our desiccants help maintain a low humidity environment within your package. This is crucial, because high humidity can lead to: [a] the degradation of organic materials like food, [b] a decrease in efficacy in life saving with pharmaceuticals, [c] the short-circuiting of electronics, and [d] the corrosion of metals. Poor moisture control can also lead to the growth of mould, mildew, or bacteria, which can spoil or contaminate products and/or create unpleasant odours upon pack-opening.

How does Desiccant Packaging prevent condensation?

In scenarios where there are large temperature fluctuations in your storage facilities or transportation network, moisture in the air can condense into liquid water on the product or on the interior walls of your packaging (e.g. when transporting perishable goods or precious electronic components in the holds of unpressurised/semi-pressurised aircraft). Our desiccants reduce the amount of water vapor available to condense and therefore prevent moisture damage via condensation.

In addition to simply ‘reducing the risk of moisture damage during shipping‘, our desiccant packaging can offer protection over an extended period, which helps you to increase your product’s shelf-life.

SUPERDRYPAK™ Silica Gel Packets are often used for short to medium-term moisture control, where a reduction to “LOW humidity” is all that is required.

SUPERDRYPAK™ Molecular Sieve Packets are used where a reduction to “NO humidity” is required. Molecular sieves are ideally suited to this task, due to their stronger moisture-retention capabilities.
