Molecular Sieve Powder is a form of synthetic alumino-silicate Zeolite. It is used to remove certain specific molecules from complex mixtures of other molecules. In performing this task, it “sieves out” the molecule that you require, and this is why these Zeolite Powders are known as “Molecular Sieves”

One of the most common uses of Molecular Sieve is for the removal of water from polymer reactions, to prevent the chemical reaction from proceeding along an alternate reaction pathway, with leads to unwanted end-products. A good example of this would be a 2-component Polyurethane (PU) formulation, where producers of Polyurethane Foam prefer to have water present in the mixing vessel in order to create lots of bubbles and the foam product that they require. Contrast this with producers of solid PU-Elastomers and PU-Resins who need the opposite outcome – a PU end-product that has zero bubbles in it.
To achieve zero bubbles, manufacturers of PU-Elastomers and PU-Resins, use 3A SUPERSIV Powder (also known as Molecular Sieve and Moisture Scavenger) to remove this water, which can cause the bubbles to appear. The result is an attractive PU-Paint or PU Casting without any surface blemishes or ugly bubbles.
