Silica Gel Packets vs Molecular Sieve Sachets: which are more suitable for pharmaceutical use?

Silica Gel packets will absorb 35% of their own weight compared to Molecular Sieve Sachets which pull-in closer to 22%. Molecular Sieve has higher affinity for water absorption. Hence, manufacturers of pharmaceutical pills, who require zero moisture, will favour Molecular Sieve Sachets above Silica Gel Sachets.

Are Silica Gel Sachets expensive?

Silica Gel Sachets are generally less expensive than those containing molecular sieve, so in the cases where ‘absolute zero’ humidity is not required, they are normally the desiccant of choice.
